The Fox Room has been full of energy and creativity this week as the children explored a range of hands-on activities that sparked their curiosity and supported their growing independence.
In the Home Corner, imaginative play has taken centre stage. Children have been cooking up pretend meals, caring for baby dolls, and chatting with friends over cups of tea. These moments are rich with opportunities for developing social skills, building confidence, and expanding language through everyday role play.
Over at the art station, little hands have been busy with paintbrushes and bold colours, experimenting with mark making and expressing themselves through shape and texture. Whether it’s a swirl, a squiggle, or a splash, each mark tells a story and helps children explore early writing in a playful, pressure-free way.
Sensory play has been wonderfully messy and joyful, with shaving foam providing a soft, squishy canvas for exploration. Children have loved diving in with their fingers, drawing patterns, and discovering how the foam moves and changes. These experiences help build fine motor skills and encourage children to notice and talk about what they see and feel.
Meanwhile, the wooden train tracks have been a hive of activity. Children have worked together to build long winding routes, problem-solve when pieces didn’t fit, and send toy trains on exciting journeys. This kind of play supports spatial awareness, coordination, and early mathematical thinking — all while having fun.
It’s been a week full of learning through play, where every activity has helped the children grow in confidence, communication, and creativity. We love seeing their ideas come to life and can’t wait to see what they explore next!
