Knowle West Ladybird and Bumblebee Rooms Explore Light and Dark

The children have been exploring light and dark using torches and lights in our dark den, discovering how light behaves in different spaces whilst building confidence in darker environments. We used torches with coloured Perspex blocks to explore colour, learning how light can transform and change colours whilst experimenting with cause and effect. The children have been making friends and playing games in the dark den, creating a special space for social play and building relationships in a unique environment.

The children have been painting pumpkins, hands, and boxes, exploring different surfaces and textures through mark-making. They also hammered golf tees into the pumpkins, developing hand-eye coordination and building strength through this satisfying physical activity.

We played outside in the stream, and with grown-up help made a giant puddle to paddle in, experiencing the joy of water play on a large scale. The children have also been enjoying lots of playing doctors, engaging in imaginative role play whilst developing their understanding of caring for others and exploring real-world scenarios through pretend play.
