Exploring the Senses in Every Season
At Knowle West Nursery School, the children in Squirrel Room have been fully immersed in sensory play, embracing the joys of the outdoors and the wonders of different textures and materials. No matter the weather, the children have been eager to explore, whether it’s jumping in puddles after a summer shower or digging into the sand tray on a sunny day.
Their sensory adventures have included playing with shredded paper, experimenting with gloop (a fascinating mixture of cornflour and water), and discovering the natural world in the garden. These experiences not only spark curiosity and creativity but also support key areas of development outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), such as physical development, communication and language, and understanding the world.
By engaging in these rich, hands-on activities, the children are developing fine motor skills, building confidence, and learning to express themselves through play.
