Dates for Your Diary

End of Term today – Friday 23rd May

Start of Term Six Monday 2nd June

Inset Day Wednesday 4th June – Nursery is closed for all children and families

Bird Watch at Knowle West Nursery School

We have bird nests at Knowle West Nursery School! Families of Blue Tits have made their home in a few places around the nursery garden, one pair of birds have made their nest by the gates to the nursery classes.

We have spotted both mum and dad bird flying in and out of the nest, and we can hear the babies chirping loudly for some food. They are very noisy! But the children have really enjoyed hearing the birds singing away right outside the rooms.

The children have noticed that the Blue Tits are really brightly coloured, bright blues and yellows. Something else the children saw was that the dad bird is much bigger and mum bird is small.

Blue tit nests are typically built in cavities like nest boxes or tree hollows, using moss, wool, hair, and feathers. The female builds the nest over a period of one to two weeks, laying 8-12 eggs. She then incubates the eggs for about two weeks before they hatch.

The children and their families have all been talking about it and we are all excited to see some baby birds emerge.

Outside in The Garden

With the sun shining and birds singing, we have been spending a lot of time out in the garden.

The children have been making sure the plants are well watered, as all this sunshine have made them thirsty! We’ve also been potting some new plants, when they start shooting, will will plant them in the garden with the others plants we tend to.

As well as having lots of fun outside, we’ve been keeping our eyes and ears on the look out for garden birds. We have spotted several bird nests around the garden!

The garden is now filled with the sounds of bird song and chirping.

Do you have any bird nests in your gardens at home?
