Fox Room Term 4: Stories, Shapes and Signs of Spring

by | Apr 1, 2026 | Fox Room, News From the Rooms

This term, we have focused on two books: Full, Full, Full of Love and So Much! We have loved how these stories are about how much the children are loved in the family. The children love looking at books and sharing a book with an adult. Next term, we are going to tune into the children’s enjoyment of stories and develop this further.

The children are enjoying mark-making and developing the skills needed for drawing and writing. We have developed the children’s gross motor skills and strength in preparation for writing. We set up provocations to invite children to mark-make and develop fine motor skills.

We have been thinking about mathematical concepts, including shape, space, measure and number. The children have enjoyed learning about patterns in different ways — they have used pegboards, shapes, and colours to make patterns. Block play has brought about so much mathematical learning, and the children have created amazing structures. We have been counting in different ways and beginning to recognise numerals.

Some ideas for trying at home:

Maths — count stairs as you climb them, count the number of socks as they come out of the washing machine. Can the children put the socks into pairs?

Signs of spring — can you see any blossom on trees? Have you spotted any daffodils?
